Welcome to Clarence Primary School

Situated in the heart of Greyville, Durban, Clarence Primary School has a proud and rich educational heritage dating back to 1905. Having celebrated its centenary in 2005, our school continues to build on a legacy of excellence, inclusivity and opportunity. We are home to a vibrant community of almost 1,200 learners, from Reception Class through to Grade 7, including two classes dedicated to Learners with Special Educational Needs (LSEN).

Our school is a true reflection of Durban’s diverse and multicultural community, bringing together learners from different backgrounds, cultures and walks of life. We celebrate this diversity as one of our greatest strengths, fostering mutual respect, understanding and a sense of belonging while preparing our learners to thrive in an ever-changing world.

At Clarence Primary School, education extends beyond the classroom. Our structured Emotional Intelligence (EQ) programme is integrated throughout the curriculum, equipping learners with essential life skills, emotional awareness, resilience and the ability to make positive, responsible choices. We strive to nurture confident, compassionate and well-rounded individuals who leave our school with a passion for learning, a love for life and the courage to shape a brighter future for themselves and their communities.

Our Vision

To be a leading centre of excellence in teaching and learning, where creativity, innovation and opportunity empower every learner to excel academically, in sport and in the Creative Arts. We strive to nurture each learner's unique abilities, unlock their full potential and equip them with the knowledge, skills and confidence to succeed in an increasingly interconnected world.

Our Mission

To provide a safe, inclusive and welcoming learning environment where quality teaching and learning are valued and pursued. We are committed to safeguarding and nurturing the physical, intellectual, social and emotional well-being of every learner, while fostering a culture of growth, mutual respect and lifelong learning.

We act truthfully and transparently in our thoughts, words and actions, building trust through sincerity and accountability.

Integrity

We uphold the highest ethical and moral standards, doing what is right even when no one is watching and taking responsibility for our choices and actions.

Fairness

We treat everyone equitably and justly, ensuring that decisions and actions are guided by impartiality, consistency and respect for the rights of others.

Inclusivity

We embrace and celebrate the cultural, racial, religious and socio-economic diversity of our school community. We strive to create an environment where every learner feels valued, supported and included, while providing learning opportunities that respond to diverse abilities, needs and learning styles.

Teamwork

We collaborate, communicate and support one another to achieve shared goals, strengthen our school community and deliver the highest standards of education and service.

Professionalism
